Description
This full size Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (studio workshop model) from between 1900/30 is in good condition with no cracks. It has been surface refinished with its intended red – oil finished.
The Thibouville-Lamy, 19th century, big family studio in Mirecourt, set the French benchmark for high-quality trade instruments are commonly referred to as “JTL’s”.
They were known for material choice excellence used in their production and fine workmanship seen on most of their existing examples.
From 1880’s to early 1930’s JTL violins, violas and cellos produced came in three distinctive grades. In this time they provided instruments to less privileged young musicians. Pleasing violins all round with clean cuts and fine vanish finishes.
Not the oldest of violins from the cradle of finest violins, but a pleasing violin with its own history of songs. Returned to its just-made best with fresh strings waiting for a player. We believe it to be a well made example of Lamy’s intent to give all a chance to play something worthy of the violin.
