Richard Duke – attributed.

Description

Description

This Richard Duke stamped violin is old. It is likely that it is in fact the real maker’s mark with Variegated tell-tale signs.

  1. The scroll has not been grafted onto a new neck, but it has been reset and aligned,
  2. The top neck block was not original to the initial making, and
  3. The inner colouration of the wood is aged without any signs of glue having been applied to teh surfaces to make it look older.

The scroll has been finely cut with deep fluting and a neatly rounded scroll spiral. A lovely light weight violin with medium to light flame on the scroll, sides and back from a quarter to three quarter cut piece. The varnish is a dark brown with golden undertones as to be expected from an original Stradivarius model cut Richard Duke violin.

When this violin came in it was coming apart at all of the seams and blocks. The glue had perished and become crystalline from a long period of not having been used.

All round it has been restored to mint structural condition with all of the old cracks having been revisited to ensure that we can guarantee that they will not open again. The ‘original’ fittings that came with the violin have been cleaned and refitted to ensure smooth tuning and staying there. The Bridge, tailpiece and strings can be chosen in the options provided.

A fine violin with a lot of potential for any discerning violinist, anywhere from advanced to professional. Additionally, it may be an original time piece. Only because we are not geared to be one hundred percent sure that it is in fact an original, the price is relative to what it cost, the time spent on making it perfect and a nominal markup that has been reduced to create this ‘special’ offer.
